Move Fast and Break Things

We started the concept of Layer-3 Tooling as a 3D printing company back in 2020 in the middle of our theses. As qualified engineers, we had years of experience designing components to take advantage of additive manufacturing, and avoiding its faults. Eventually we got tired of dealing with the downsides of the printers we could buy at the time and sought to design our own printer. Dozens of new designs later, we thought to turn it into a business; the only problem was the need for a custom slicer. We finished our degrees having developed some small programs that rivaled the performance of ANSYS and Solidworks with inexpensive customized hardware. We dropped the 3D printer suite idea and pursued other ventures as we settled into our careers. A few years later we were tasked with the automation of a machine job shop. Armed with the uniquely adaptable knowledge gained during our research, the development of Dynamo led us to shift towards designing software and hardware for heavy industry and aerospace that just simply works. Now with the sudden explosion of attention-based transformer models like ChatGPT and Palm 2, we're keeping up with the rush by developing our own software suite, tailored to bring a capable and usable product for the engineering industry, one program at a time.
